This Privacy Policy explains what information Fotki ("the App," "we," "us," "our") collects, how it is used, and your rights with respect to that information.




1. Summary (TL;DR)


  • We do not collect your name, email address, or any other personal information.
  • We generate an anonymous device identifier (a random UUID) stored on your device. This is the only thing that links your data to you.
  • Photos you submit are sent to Runware's AI API for processing and are not permanently stored on our servers.
  • We store your coin balance and restoration history linked to your anonymous device ID only.
  • We do not sell or share your data with third parties for advertising.



  • 2. Information We Collect


    2.1 Device Identifier

    When you first launch the App, a randomly generated unique identifier (UUID) is created and saved securely on your device using the operating system's secure storage (iOS Keychain / Android Keystore equivalent). This identifier:

  • Is not linked to your name, email, Apple ID, Google account, or any personally identifiable information.
  • Is used only to track your coin balance and transaction history on our servers.
  • Persists across app updates but is lost if you delete the app (at which point a new identifier is created).

  • 2.2 Photos You Submit

    When you use Fotki to restore a photo:

  • The photo is transmitted over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) to our backend server and then forwarded to Runware's AI processing API.
  • Photos are processed in memory and are not permanently stored on our servers after processing completes.
  • The restored output image is delivered back to your device and saved locally — we do not retain a copy.

  • 2.3 Usage and Transaction Data

    We store the following data on our servers, linked only to your anonymous device identifier:

  • Your current coin balance.
  • A log of coin transactions (e.g., initial bonus, coins spent on restorations, refunds, purchases).
  • Transaction types and timestamps.

  • This data does not include the photos you submitted or any personally identifiable information.


    2.4 Locally Stored Data

    The following data is stored only on your device and is never sent to our servers:

  • Your restoration history (thumbnails and local file paths of processed photos).
  • App preferences and language settings.



  • 3. How We Use Your Information


    We use the collected data exclusively to operate and improve the App:


  • Device identifier — Linking your coin balance to your device.
  • Coin balance & transaction log — Managing the in-app economy, preventing abuse.
  • Submitted photos — Processing by AI to generate the restored image.
  • Locally stored history — Showing your past restorations within the app.

  • We do not use your data for:

  • Advertising or marketing profiling.
  • Selling to third parties.
  • Building behavioral profiles.
  • Training AI models on your photos.



  • 4. Third-Party Services


    4.1 Runware AI

    Photos submitted for restoration are processed by Runware (runware.ai), an AI image processing platform. When you submit a photo:

  • It is transmitted to Runware's servers for processing.
  • Runware's own Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply to their handling of your data.
  • We encourage you to review Runware's policies at their official website.

  • 4.2 Apple App Store / Google Play (for purchases)

    If you make an in-app purchase, the transaction is handled directly by Apple or Google. We do not receive or store your payment card information. Apple and Google's respective privacy policies apply.




    5. Data Storage and Security


  • Your device identifier and transaction data are stored in a password-protected, encrypted PostgreSQL database hosted on secure infrastructure.
  • All data transmission between the App and our servers uses HTTPS (TLS encryption).
  • We apply reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data against unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction.
  • No method of internet transmission or electronic storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.



  • 6. Data Retention


  • Device identifier & coin balance — Retained until you request deletion.
  • Transaction log — Retained until you request deletion.
  • Submitted photos — Not retained (processed in memory only).
  • Locally saved restorations — Retained until you delete them from your device.



  • 7. Children's Privacy


    The App is not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect any data from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.




    8. Your Rights


    Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your data:


  • Access — Request a copy of the data we hold linked to your device identifier.
  • Deletion — Request deletion of all data linked to your device identifier.
  • Correction — Request correction of inaccurate data.
  • Portability — Request your data in a portable format.

  • Because we do not collect your name or email, requests must include your device identifier (visible in the App's settings screen) so we can locate your data.

    9. International Data Transfers


    Your data may be processed and stored on servers located outside your country of residence. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of information to countries that may have different data protection laws than your country.




    10. California Residents (CCPA)


    If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA):

  • The right to know what personal information is collected, used, shared, or sold.
  • The right to delete personal information.
  • The right to opt out of the sale of personal information — we do not sell personal information.

    11. European Users (GDPR)


    If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) or equivalent laws may apply. Our legal basis for processing your data is:


  • Legitimate interest — managing the coin system necessary to provide the service.
  • Contractual necessity — processing your photo to deliver the restoration you requested.

  • You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.




    12. Changes to This Privacy Policy


    We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by displaying a notice in the App or updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this document. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
